Reproduction Sampler Kits
Bakewell Old House Museum Collection

These kits contain all you need to make a reproduction of these genuine 19th century samplers from the collection in the Old House Museum, Bakewell. Click on each sampler for some background information and a picture of the original.

The "Excelent" sampler (OHM01)

Two panels. The upper one contains a motto, the lower a couple (possibly Adam and Eve) surrounded by various floral motifs.

The Strawberry Sampler (OHM02)

A charming alphabet with a traditional strawberry border. Dated 1873, with the initials of the stitcher EE.

The Alice Greatorex Sampler (OHM03)

A very pretty sampler dated 1881 and containing three full alphabets. The stitcher, who has included both her name and initials, may have lived in the neighbouring village of Rowsley.

The Harriet Househam Sampler (OHM04)

A delightful, small alphabet stitched by Harriet Househam. This kit would be ideal for a beginner or as a small present.

The Elizabeth Oldershaw Sampler (OHM07)

An unusual sampler in that only one colour thread is used. Stitched by Elizabeth Oldershaw, it contains three full alphabets and a small religious motto.
