About us

We have lived in Bakewell since 1983. However, the origins of Craftwise lie in a visit we made when we used to live near Bath in Avon. Dawn has been a keen cross stitcher since her school days, and had heard of the collection of samplers in Bakewell Old House Museum. When we came to see them, she was surprised and disappointed that it wasn't possible to buy a kit as she would have loved to stitch a memento of the visit. Some time after we moved to Bakewell we decided to begin a series of craft markets in Bakewell Town Hall. Once these were established, Dawn's thoughts turned once again to the samplers in the museum and she approached the museum committee to see if they would allow kits to be made. They gave their permission, and with the encouragement of Dean and Elizabeth in Wye Needlecraft Dawn began stitching modern copies of some of the samplers. We also contacted Peter and Christine at Abacus Designs, who agreed to handle the production and distribution of the kits. We hope that you enjoy stitching these kits as much as we have enjoyed creating and researching them.
